Sebastian Hawke, Lucas Phelps and Elizabeth Wiles were among 300 students honoured in a ceremony in Melbourne on Thursday.
Head of Girton Grammar School Matthew Maruff said all three students had worked incredibly hard.
“These exceptional students thoroughly deserve their Premier’s Award and their teachers are to be commended too, on supporting them and in fuelling their passion for each subject,” Mr Maruff said.
Year 11 students Sebastian (Further Mathematics) and Lucas (Systems Engineering) each scored a perfect 50 in their respective subjects.
Girton graduate Elizabeth Wiles scored a perfect score in philosophy and is now studying Bio-medical Science at Monash University.
“Two of the students were in year 11 last year so their results are particularly impressive seeing as they were pitted against students a year ahead of them in school,” Mr Maruff said.
For Sebastian and Lucas, there is no chance to slow down with their final year of high school already very busy.
“It’s nice to get a bit of recognition. We weren’t thinking about awards, we were just pushing as hard as we could,” Lucas said.
“(This year) is still definitely going to be difficult, but I suppose having a good score (already) there helps. We are still working as hard as we can.”
Sebastian said the award was nice but there was still a lot of work left to do.
“I think I have more of an expectation on myself now that those (great) scores have happened,” he said.
“I am looking at getting into bio-medicine, so mathematics should be useful for that.”
Sebastian is studying two maths subjects, English and Japanese this year while Lucas is completing physics, chemistry and mathematics.
As part of his year 11 engineering class, Lucas also created a page-turning robot from scratch.
“I’ve always enjoyed tinkering and building things with my hands. It’s something I want to continue into university,” he said.
The three Girton students’ impressive scores also highlighted the school’s other outstanding results.
“The 2015 cohort of VCE students at Girton continued the school’s tradition of achieving outstanding VCE results,” Mr Maruff said.
“(They) topped the region with a median ATAR score of 81.”
I think I have more of an expectation on myself now.
