Stephen John Asling, 52, pleaded guilty in the Bendigo Magistrates Court yesterday to one count of affray.
The court was told Asling and a co-offender had been drinking in the Vic Hotel on July 16, 2010, when they were asked to leave about 11pm.
The co-offender lunged at the hotel’s manager, throwing punches.
A gaming attendant and crowd controller stepped in to help and that is when Asling became involved, striking all three men several times.
The court was told the victims received cuts and bruises in the affray, and several patrons feared for their safety.
Magistrate Richard Wright said he accepted Asling had played a lesser role in the incident, but he said victim impact statements showed how serious the incident was.
“For these people in the hotel it must have been a pretty scary experience,” he said.
The court was told Asling was serving a four-year jail term on two counts of reckless conduct endangering injury and one count of making threats to kill. He is currently in solitary confinement.
Mr Wright said anything he could impose would be “fairly minor” compared to that sentence.
The six months’ jail will be served concurrently with Asling’s current sentence. The maximum penalty for affray is five years’ jail.
