The Demons have flown under the radar early in the year, with most focus on reigning premier Colbinabbin and last year’s runners-up North Bendigo.
That could change now after their 46-37 win over a Leitchville side which had lost to Colbo and North Bendigo by a combined total of nine goals.
Colbo consolidated top spot on the ladder by thumping Elmore 65-22. The Grasshoppers and North Bendigo meet in a top-of-the-table clash next Saturday.
Lockington-Bamawm United opened its account with a 57-31 defeat of Heathcote.
In the remaining game of the round, Huntly moved into fourth position on the back of its 48-31 win over Mt Pleasant.
