POLICE are organising a search for New South Wales people who did not return to Hamilton after a day trip on Thursday.
Sergeant Rex Habel said the four adults and a six-month old baby were reported missing about 11pm Thursday after they failed to return to Hamilton after a day trip to the Grampians.
It appears the family set off about 11am yesterday from a Hamilton address however their destination or route of travel is unclear.
Police have been told the group had possibly planned to spend the day at the national park, near Dunkeld.
It is believed they do not have any camping gear or food with them and it was expected they would return home as food was left in the slow cooker.
"We're still in the early stages but people have been reported missing. We're not even sure if they are in the Grampians," Sergeant Habel said.
"As yet we do not have a defined search area. The people are from Penrith, west of Sydney and were reported missing at 11pm Thursday. They were staying in Hamilton and failed to return."
Sergeant Habel said the visitors – two males, two females and a baby – were travelling in a silver Nissan Navara dual cab ute with NSW registration plate number YDI-50U.
Local police with the assistance of Airwing, State Emergency Service personnel and Parks Victoria are co-ordinating the search.
"We're asking anyone who sees that dual cab ute to contact Hamilton police station or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000," Sergeant Habel said.
"They have been staying in Hamilton and the reporting person believes they were heading to the Grampians on Thursday for a day trip but they did not return.
"They have mobile telephones but there's been no contact and limited mobile reception across the south-west makes things more complicated."
Sergeant Habel said much of the Grampians did not have mobile telephone coverage and that extended to areas such as Nelson on the South Australian border.
