A MAN who pleaded guilty to a triple murder in Wedderburn has sacked his lawyers just three days out from a pre-sentencing hearing.

Ian Francis Jamieson, 65, appeared at a brief hearing in the Supreme Court on Tuesday, telling the court of his lack of satisfaction for his legal team.

“The ones I got gave me a lot of bad advice that I was not happy with,” he said.

“I’m well aware that your honour is trying to bulldoze this as long and as fast as you can. Go for your life. There’s not much I can do about it.”

It was the second team of lawyers Jamieson had been through since his murder hearings began more than a year ago.

The first legal team, led by prominent Melbourne lawyer Zarah Garde-Wilson, terminated their work with Jamieson after he refused to pay their fees, the court heard.

“I got a bill for $85,000 that I had no hope of paying, so don’t give it to me that I terminated it,” he said.

“She terminated it herself, get that right.”

His decision to sack the legal team led by Emma Turnbull Lawyers on Monday frustrated Justice Elizabeth Hollingworth, who saw it as an attempt by Jamieson to hijack proceedings.

“Because you have a plea on this Thursday and if you don’t have lawyers you will be representing yourself, it’s as simple as that, so this rather casual attitude isn’t helping,” she said.

“This is the second lot of lawyers that you’ve terminated with an impending court hearing which is why I’m not impressed.

“I obviously don’t know what’s gone on with that relationship.

“Mr Jamieson though is not going to be allowed to hijack the hearing simply by sacking people at the last minute.”

The pre-sentencing hearing will still go ahead in the Supreme Court in Bendigo on Thursday, but Justice Hollingworth foreshadowed the hearing could be carried over to Friday, with sentencing at a later date.

Jamieson told the court his wife was organising a new lawyer. He had no further details, however.

Jamieson pleaded guilty on April 5 to the 2014 murders of Peter Lockhart, 78, Mary Lockhart, 74, and Greg Holmes, 48.

He changed his plea to guilty for the murder of Mr Holmes during the proceedings, after initially planning to plead not guilty.

The murders took place on rural properties south of Wedderburn on October 22, 2014. Mr Holmes was the son of Mrs Lockhart, and stepson of Mr Lockhart.

The court heard Jamieson stabbed Mr Holmes repeatedly on his own property, before travelling across the Wedderburn-Logan Road to murder Mr and Mrs Lockhart.
