A 19-year-old driver failed to give way at an intersection in Jackass Flat, crashing head-on into oncoming traffic at about midday yesterday.
The California Gully man was travelling along Jobs Gully Road in a blue Holden ute when he turned right onto Lakeview Place and crashed into the silver Hyundai hatchback, Leading Senior Constable Todd Deary said.
“It was a straight failure to give way and he’ll cop a fine for that,” LSC Deary said.
The driver of the Hyundai was a 40-year-old woman from Ascot – the new car was a Christmas present.
Both vehicles were written off.
The woman received bruising to her arms but escaped relatively uninjured.
The California Gully man was being assessed by paramedics for a possible broken arm but also avoided life-threatening injuries.
“It was a relatively low-impact crash,” LSC Deary said.
The Hyundai driver said she was travelling at less than 50 kilometres per hour and did not have time to brake before crashing into the turning ute.
She said she was keeping her speed under check because she knew the road was dangerous.
Both cars were insured.
The vehicles were towed from the scene at about 12.30pm and traffic returned to normal.
“It was a straight failure to give way and he’ll cop a fine for that,” LSC Deary said.
