The 18-year-old Lancefield woman was driving on Pyalong Road when she swerved to avoid another vehicle and came off the road, rolling into an enbankment and into a tree.
Police arrived to find the car wreckage empty.
The driver had already been given a lift home.
She was later treated by paramedics and taken to hospital for observation.
Constable Samantha Cubley said the woman had only held her licence for three months.
She said the driver’s inexperience and the wet road conditions were factors in the crash.
The car coming toward her was travelling at 100km/h.
