The Bendigo Breast Cancer Support Services Network will host the event on October 17 from 8.30am at the Bendigo Club.
Guest speakers will include The Otis Foundation founder and chairman Andrew Barling, health psychologist Jane Fletcher, former Cancer Council Victoria’s director of cancer information and support services Doreen Ackerman, Morgan Murphy from Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre and plastic and reconstructive surgeon Hamish Farrow.
The Otis Foundation general manager Kristen Simpson said the event would also include trade displays from breast cancer support services such as The Otis Foundation, Encore, Japonica and Cassia.
“We’re looking forward to a really good day,” Ms Simpson said.
The Bendigo Breast Cancer Support Services Network is a support group that meets bimonthly in Bendigo.
“It’s made up of allied health professionals, breast care nurses in Bendigo, breast screen and volunteers who work on the Encore program, community volunteers and myself,” Ms Simpson said.
“The forum is here in Bendigo but we’d love for people from surrounding areas to come, too.”
Speakers will cover topics including managing anxiety and psychological effects of treatments, sexuality and cancer treatments, genetic factors and breast reconstruction.
“The Otis Foundation chairman Andrew Barling lost his wife to breast cancer so that’s why the foundation started,” Ms Simpson said.
Tickets to the event are $20 per person and include morning tea and lunch.
They’re available by phoning BreastScreen Bendigo on 5441 6850, the John Lindell Rehabilitation Unit on 5454 8500, The Otis Foundation on 5444 1185 or Encore Program co-ordinator Wendy on 5446 2092.
