Ten debutantes and their partners were presented to Cr James Williams and his wife Ann at the historical Eaglehawk Town Hall on Thursday night.
The young people, who came from Eaglehawk and further afield, were joined on their big night by 160 family members and friends.
While debutante balls had traditionally marked a young woman’s entrance into society, ball co-ordinator Kaye Parker said this event was more about giving young people the opportunity to learn new skills and experience the elegance of a formal occasion. This ball was also a more gender-neutral occasion, with a greater focus on the young men as well as the women, Mrs Parker said.
Parents and grandparents were invited to learn and participate in the dances, ensuring all the family could take a turn on the dance floor. The ball marked the end of the Eaglehawk Dahlia and Arts Festival.
