There is now a light, bright art showroom inside the Valentine’s Antiques shop on Hargreaves Street, which will host exhibitions from a different high-end artist every three months.
Renowned landscape painter Jeff Makin is the first artist to occupy the gallery, but shop manager Peter Valentine said he also planned for emerging creatives to hang their work in the space.
The room was added as part of a store-wide refurbishment that Mr Valentine hopes will win over younger antiques buyers who inherit family heirlooms that they are unsure how to display at home.
“We hope to try and educate people about how they can put the old and new together,” he said.
“That’s the beauty of antiques – they are timeless like a Chesterfield and they never go out of vogue.”
The new-look Valentine’s Antiques will premiere on Saturday afternoon.
