UPDATE 10.10am: Police have confirmed the man killed in a cycling accident in Sedgwick on Monday morning was Peter Hunt, 66, of California Gully.
UPDATE 1.15pm: Police say the man who was killed while cycling in Sedgwick this morning crashed into an embankment on a corner.
The man in his 60s, from California Gully, was on a social ride with a group of people when he lost control and crashed, suffering severe head injuries.
Senior Sergeant Mick McCrann said police were still investigating the cause of the accident.
“The cyclist has lost control on a social ride, had a collision, suffered some head injuries and is now deceased at the scene,” he said.
“It appears he is a competent rider, he’s riding among a group of friends, it’s a social group that goes out and would ride this route again and again.
“The loss of control is a bit unexplained at this stage.”

It is still unclear what caused the man to come off his bike.
Leading Senior Constable Steve Dixon said North Harcourt Road was likely to be closed to traffic from near the intersection with Bendigo-Sutton Grange Road for at least the next few hours.
