City arts and culture coordinator Maree Tonkin said the Exhibit B pop-up will be open for four weeks but, if successful, the trial model might be introduced in other places around the city.
“The idea is that we occupy other spaces as they become available – it’s really about supporting our creative community to become more visible and more accessible.
“It will also activate a vacant property not under any formal lease arrangements, which is more interesting than looking at an empty shopfront.”
One of the artists on display is Arkeria Rose Armstrong, who recently exhibited her work in Rotterdam.
“Europe has that strong art base – they have an Aboriginal museum in the Netherlands, they do museum nights where all the art spaces are open for 24 hours,” Ms Armstrong said. “We haven’t had that in Bendigo, so it’s great for these events to happen here.
“This is an amazing opportunity for me to get out there, but also to see the range of work from other local artists.”
Exhibit B has partnered with Bendigo Makers’ Crib who will be showcasing locally made jewellery, ceramics and textiles and much more.
Exhibit B is located at Shop 7 Fountain Court, Charing Cross and will be open to the public from this Wednesday 9 March operational hours are Wednesday – Thursday 10am – 4pm, Friday 10 am – 7pm and Saturday and Sunday 10am -4pm.
