Mrs Yeates’ 10 year-old daughter Imogen has been living with type 1 diabetes for four years and says it is important to raise awareness about the disease.
Mrs Yeates said she has taken part in the annual walk in Melbourne for the last three years and decided to organise an event in Bendigo.
She hopes that one day there will be a cure for diabetes.
Those who live with type 1 diabetes require a daily regime of up to six insulin injections as well as up to eight finger prick tests.
Walk to Cure will be held at Lake Neangar in Eaglehawk on October 14 between 10am and 2pm, with all proceeds going towards Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation’s research projects.
