Mick Whittle, 75, faced one charge of criminal damage by fire.
Whittle will be sentenced in the Bendigo County Court on November 19.
He had his bail extended.
There were scenes outside the court after the guilty plea with a Melbourne media crew filming.
The Strickland Street home Whittle shared with his estranged wife and their disabled teenage daughter was severely damaged in the blast on July 23.
Neighbours described the blast as like 'something out of the movies'.
Heavy moving equipment was used to demolish the house so Country Fire Authority crews could completely extinguish the fire.
