The Rangas didn’t get halfway to the Tigers’ total of 8-339 declared after they were bowled out for 168 in the top-of-the-ladder clash.
It was the Rangas’ first defeat since they lost to Emu Creek on January 25, 2014.
The Rangas’ run-chase got away to a positive start with a 70-run opening stand between Phil Berry (33) and Cain Ladiges (33).
But once Berry was removed, the Tigers assumed control for the rest of the day, keeping the pressure on the reigning premiers until they were all out in the 64th over.
Apart from the openers, the only other players to score in double figures were skipper Ben Rodda (40 n.o.) and Michael Healy (25).
The Tigers shared their wickets around, with Keiran Nihill (3-21), Daniel Francis (3-30) and Andrew Duguid (2-15) combining for eight.
• Emu Creek staved off Spring Gully’s outright attempt, with the Crows falling just two wickets shy of maximum points.
Having started the day at 0-85 in reply to the Emus’ 119, the Crows declared at 8-256 in which Shaun Makepeace (83) was the chief run-scorer, while fellow opener Jayden Mannix made 39 and veteran Des Gilmore finished unbeaten on 39.
Justin Hancock picked up 3-21 for the Emus, who narrowly avoided the outright loss when they held on to finish at 8-78 in their second dig in which Simon Marwood’s 18 was the top-score.
Spring Gully captain Alex Sutton took his tally of wickets for the season to 30 with his 3-21.
• Maiden Gully made more than 300 for the first time in three seasons in its win over Axe Creek. Chasing the Cowboys’ 9-208, Maiden Gully belted 6-322.
There were plenty of contributors in what was the Gully’s fifth win of the season as all eight batsmen used scored at least 13.
Trevor Pickthall (90) and captain Leon Beatty (74) both made half-centuries, with Pickthall passing 50 in his third-consecutive innings.
Spinner Greg Burns was the leading wicket-taker for the Cowboys with a return of 5-94 off 22 overs.
• Sedgwick’s score of 251 proved out of reach of Golden Gully, which was all out for 213 to go down by 38 runs.
The Cobras were unable to captialise on a solid start after they had been 2-105.
Shaun O’Shea (44) was the best of the Cobras’ batsmen, while skipper Clint Prime (35) and Jeremy Rogerson (33) were bothy dismissed after getting into the 30s.
All players bowled for the Rams, with the 11th used – James Schischka - taking the final three wickets to fall to claim 3-4 off 4.1 overs.
• Marong won its third game, defeating West Bendigo by 97 runs.
After bowling West Bendigo out for 113, the Panthers started the day on the cusp of victory at 2-105 and declared at 7-210, with Jeremy Ross unbeaten on 51.
Scott Ryan snared 4-54 for the Redbacks, who made an improved 5-138 in their second innings, led by 77 n.o. from Dion Prange.
