Gold medallist at last year’s Victorian All Schools titles, Baldwin’s personal best of 2.10m is equal for Bendigo’s under-20 residential record.
The Girton Grammar student went on to claim bronze at the Australian All Schools in December.
The qualifying mark for the world junior titles to be run in Kazan, Russia from July 19 to 24 is 2.16m.
One of many young guns at the Bendigo Harriers Athletics Club, Baldwin is coached by Brett Gilligan.
More than 50 athletes who have links to Athletics Bendigo will contest the Victorian junior titles.
Athletics Bendigo general manager Craig Green said many of Bendigo’s leading prospects were in the jumps and throws events.
Eaglehawk’s Olivia Graham and South Bendigo’s Liam Campbell have been in hot form in the hammer throw.
Christopher Browne, Mackenzie Cooper and Bree Heiden will contest a mix of discus, javelin and shot put.
A multiple national champion in Ambulant events, Liam Richardson will contest the under-18 100m and 200m.
South Bendigo’s Zahra Hayes has achieved the fastest time for the 3000m walk in the state this season and will be hot favourite in the under-16 event.
The Campaspe Shire and Rochester junior sportsperson of the year, Zahra is coached by Bendigo’s Paul Rance.
At the pole vault, Bendigo Harriers clubmates Jemuel Pryse, Cooper Saunders and Emma Gilligan will be flying high.
Kyle Murphy has had a great season in long and triple jump.
Eaglehawk’s Lachlan Johnson, and Bendigo Harriers’ Connor Cudmore and Fraser Symons are strong chances to be among the top three in sprint or distance hurdles.
Leading contenders in the 400m include Bendigo’s Lucy Zotti, Ben Powell and Jake Hilson.
Distance runs range from 800m to 500m.
The in-form Luke Padgham, 800m and 1500m, and Taryn Furletti, 1500m and 3000m, will be ones to watch.
Action begins at 5.30pm on Friday at the Albert Park complex.
Saturday’s program begins at 9.30am, with Sunday’s finale to kick off at 9am.
