7pm: Councillors Ruffell, Williams and Fyffe have paid tribute to former Huntly councillor Neil Pitson who passed away on Friday.
“His contribution was enormous,” Cr Williams said.
6.45pm: Councillors approved a motion, moved by Cr Williams, to acknowledge progress made on addressing the recommendations on the Independent Review.
“I believe the implementation of these recommendations will set us up well for the future,” Cr Williams said.
Cr Lyons spoke in favour of the motion, declaring his confidence that all of the recommendations would be fully adopted within 12 months.
“I’m sure we’ll complete them by the end of the year,” he said.
Cr Leach spoke in opposition to the motion and was the only councillor to vote against it.
6.30pm: Councillors have voted to amend the approval of a 9 lot subdivision in Axedale to improve safety for drivers on Giris Road.
6.15pm: The council has received a petition signed by 12 people requesting the sealing of Empire and Lancashire roads in West Bendigo.
The petition also calls for signage and cameras to be installed, citing problems with drug use, rubbish dumping and hoon driving.
The council agreed to consider the petition and prepare a response.
6pm: The council has responded to questions on the future of councillor Mark Weragoda and the rollout of the NBN.
Councillors were asked why they continued to support Cr Weragoda after he “lied” about drink-driving.
“He has broken his oath as a member of the council,” the questioner stated.
“Should he not resign?”
Chief executive officer Craig Niemann responded that as far as the council was concerned the matter had been finalised.
“It’s been through the process of review and it’s up to the individual,” he said.
The question on the NBN rollout was taken on notice.
