EARLIER: A Kangaroo Flat woman who disappeared last month may have met with foul play, homicide detectives have said.
Samantha Kelly, a mother of four children, had not been seen for two weeks when she was reported missing on February 4.
The last confirmed sighting of Ms Kelly was in the shopping precinct in High Street, Kangaroo Flat, at about 3.20pm on Wednesday, January 20.
Homicide detective Senior Sergeant Shane O'Connell said police held grave concerns for Ms Kelly's wellbeing, and it was out of character for her to go missing.
Police have spoken with as many as 10 people connected to the 39-year-old woman but do not have any suspects at this stage, he said.
Senior Sergeant O'Connell described Ms Kelly as a doting mother to her four children, whose names are tattooed on her forearm.
The children, who lived with their mother and a number of her friends in Kangaroo Flat, were now in the custody of their uncle, Senior Sergeant O’Connell said.
Her youngest child celebrated their first birthday in the days since Ms Kelly was last seen.
"They appear to be coping quite well in the circumstances," Senior Sergeant O'Connell said.
"As far as the extended family goes, I can only imagine this is a very stressful time for them and we are keeping them updated as to the status of the investigation."
Police are appealing for anyone who may have seen Ms Kelly since January 20 to come forward immediately.
While there had been a number of reported sightings of the woman between January 20 and 23, those remain unconfirmed.
Described as a “prolific Facebook user”, her social media profiles, phone and bank accounts had not been accessed since she was last spotted, the detective said.
Police do not believe the Kangaroo Flat mother has her own transport.
Senior Sergeant O'Connell said the length of time before police were told about the woman's disappearance had the potential to impact upon their investigation.
On Tuesday, detectives released photos of Ms Kelly in the hope it will assist the investigation.
