Each year, they put in the extra effort to raise thousands of dollars for the charity Redkite, which supports the families of those with cancer.
They outdid themselves this Christmas, raising $9200 in five weeks.
The effort ranked the Lansell Square supermarket among the top fundraising Coles stores in Australia, coming in fourth in the state, out of more than 200 stores, and ninth in the country.
Customer service manager Tania King said the whole front end department did their bit in helping to reach the figure.
“Our department is really good when it comes to helping the cause,” she said.
“We also ask each customer if they would like to donate when they come through the checkouts, as well as selling the cards.”
The fundraiser involves purchasing $2 Christmas cards from the store, to be displayed on a wall with the customers name written inside.
The Kangaroo Flat effort went beyond the supermarket walls however, with staff members taking the train to Melbourne to rattle the tins, bringing in an extra $600.
Front end staff member Sarah Richards also held a barbecue fundraiser at Big Hill Primary School, raising a further $800.
The Redkite campaign was run through Coles supermarkets from November 25, raising more than $1.1 million across Australia.
The charity provides financial assistance for families of those with cancer, as well as counselling, grief support, diagnosis support, social workers and music therapists.
More than $345,000 was raised for Redkite across Victoria.
Coles state general manager Sarah Hunter said they were once again overwhelmed with the response from the community, particularly those in Kangaroo Flat.
