Addy, or Spirit Of Bendigo as she is known on the racetrack, was beaten more than 18m in the Bendigo Bank 3YO Pace.
Trainer/driver Paul Campbell eased the Bendigo Advertiser Race For Fun Club filly to the rear of the field from her wide draw.
She raced four back on the pegs before Campbell tried to ease her off the rails at the 500m mark.
“She copped a slight check, but that’s no excuse,’’ Campbell said.
“She just didn’t finish off the race as well as we would have liked.
“With the run she had she shouldn’t have finished that far behind them.”
Campbell said Addy could need a break.
“We’ll give her another run at Echuca next Thursday and then decide if she goes out for a spell,’’ Campbell said.
“Her work has been really good and her coat is coming out, but she just didn’t race as well as we thought she would tonight. Hopefully, she’ll go better at Echuca.”
Campbell and wife Maree had reason to smile later in the meeting last night.
Paul’s consistent pacer Dual Agent Tabman scored a gutsy win in the Hygain Feeds Pacers Handicap.
They followed up with Patrique, trained and driven by Maree, winning the final event.
