The duo will combine their passion for physical challenges with a cause close to their hearts when they tackle the Kokoda Trail next month.
Mrs Perryman, a 35-year-old mother of three from Boort, and 20-year-old Mr Rhook from Bendigo, are tin-rattling for the National Breast Cancer Foundation.
“We’ve always talked about doing the Kokoda Trail but when mum got cancer back in 2008 we started really tossing the idea around and worked out we could do it as a fund-raiser,” Mrs Perryman said.
“It’s sort of killing two birds with one stone. “
“And we get to tick the Kokoda Trail off our bucket lists.”
The pair have been busy tin-rattling and will host their major fund-raising night on October 5 at the Boort Memorial Hall.
“We’ll have two guest speakers – mum and another cancer survivor,” Mrs Perryman said.
“Tickets are $25 and will include a three-course meal.”
Mrs Perryman said cancer was something that touched so many lives.
She said her mum, Denise Rhook, had been lucky enough to win her battle.
“Mum had a routine mammogram in December 2008 and she got called back and hers turned out to be a cancerous lump,” Mrs Perryman said.
“It was the week before Christmas she got called back and ended up having a mastectomy and six months of chemotherapy. So she travelled from Bendigo to Boort for treatment.
“It was nearly 18 months ago she was given the all clear ... We felt that raising funds for the Breast Cancer Foundation was a worthwhile way of giving back to an organisation that provides such wonderful support networks to sufferers and their families.”
Mrs Perryman and her brother will begin their nine-day trek on October 24.
