After 27 years of trading, family business Ruffell jewellers has announced they are shutting their Hargreaves Mall shop.
Citing a change in shopping habits, the high Australian dollar and the unappealing atmosphere of the mall director Martin Ruffell said the decision to close was difficult.
"Times have changed and bricks and mortar stores are struggling," he said.
"There is a great deal of novelty in buying from online traders and the next generation will rely more and more on the internet for information and products.
"We are therefore going to pursue other avenues to bring quality individual handmade jewellery to the marketplace."
Mr Ruffell said he was proud of the level of customer service they had provided to the community over the years.
"I wish to thank all of our loyal customers, some of whom have been with us from the start, for their loyal patronage."
The closing down sale starts today and will run until December 24.
