The Creeth Street residence, known as Cambourne, was built in the 1870s and has had multiple uses over the years, including as a private residence and an aged care facility.

Ms Boutard said the house had been home to several Bendigo identities throughout the years, including in the late 1870s and ‘80s by storekeeper John Stamp, another storekeeper John A. Lewis (1890-96) and his widow Caroline Lewis for one year before being bought by former Mayor Dunstan in 1898.

Mr Lewis and Mr Lewis were partners in a store, located opposite the house, called ‘Lewis and Dunstan’s’, which supplied goods to those working on the goldfields.

The home underwent a major transformation in Mr Dunstan’s time, when two rooms were added to the front, a new roof erected and the interior was completely refurbished.

“It was a bit of a social hub for him and his family,” Ms Boutard said.

“It’s basically really just a ‘happy’ house.

“In about the 1950s it started operating as an aged care home called Lilley Lodge and they had about 34 living here after building two new wings to the house, with bedrooms and toilets.”

The home now boasts nine bedrooms and a remarkable 11 entrances to the premises.

A spacious lounge room features coved and ornamental cornice with Jacobean ribbing, Edwardian Queen Anne Style mantle and a spectacular adjoining bay window.

Ms Boutard said she hoped the hoe would provide as many good memories as it had her family.
