Sergeant Mick McCrann of the Bendigo Highway Patrol said police in an unmarked vehicle were attending an address in Sibley Place at about 10.20am when they saw the white Subaru wagon take off at speed.
“When they attempted to stop that vehicle it evaded police and conducted a U-turn, became stationary in the middle of Sibley Place, began revving the motor and spinning the wheels and drove straight at the members,” he said.
Sergeant McCrann said police were making inquiries in order to identify the driver with the intention of impounding the vehicle.
“We can’t tolerate this kind of dangerous driving on our streets [and] police aren’t prepared to increase the risk by trying to to stop someone,” he said.
“We made an operational decision to allow the vehicle to leave the area rather than continue to chase.”
Sergeant McCrann said anyone with information should contact Senior Constable Dave Sanders at the Bendigo Police Station on 5448 1300, or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
“We’re looking to negotiate a surrender with the driver of the vehicle,” he said.
“We’re fairly determined to identify that person and we’ll speak to any witnesses that we can.”
