The group were seen playing on the train line near Oak Street about 4pm but had fled the scene by the time police arrived.
Leading Senior Constable Gary Boucher said it was a reminder that kids need to realise the danger of playing on train tracks.
He said there was a spike in call outs to train line disturbances around school holidays.
"This time of year we get dozens of calls. Parents need to remind their children that railways are not playgrounds," he said.
Leading Senior Constable Boucher said each time police were called, V/Line were forced to halt services until the area was cleared. He said delays could last up to an hour.
