Police will make a 464B application to the court, which, if approved, will allow them to transfer and interview a person in custody.
Baby Zayden Veal died in June.
The results of the post mortem will not be made public; however, the Bendigo Advertiser believes the infant suffered head injuries.
Police have confirmed that he did not die of natural causes.
Bendigo police were initially called to a series of burglaries in the Long Gully area on June 15, but were informed of the death of the 11-month-old while en route.
A 19-year-old man was found hiding in the back of his father’s car after being intercepted on the Calder Highway several days later.
He was sentenced to 12 months’ youth detention after pleading guilty to 23 offences including burglary, aggravated burglary and theft.
The teen has denied any involvement in the baby’s death.
