Festival director David Frazer said when embarking on the first festival in 2011, they didn’t look five years into the future.
“Five years is an achievement in the festival caper,” he said.
“We spend the better part of nine months putting a line-up together each year.
“When we embarked on the first festival, it was big roll of the dice for our company so we didn’t look far beyond year one.
“My production company had worked smaller scale acoustic events and live theatre but nothing like the scale of music festival.
Frazer said he wanted Riverboats to have a great balance of Australian line-ups and generating a festival feel that was different to other events.
“The amount of support received has been wonderful, we certainly didn’t think Missy Higgins and You Am I would be involved when we started,” Frazer said.
“We have been really fortunate that word got around and that people in the music and art communities heard about it.”
Frazer said the festival is unlikely to get bigger but that the team behind it intend to keep making it better.
“The intention every year is to keep getting better. We won’t be getting bigger,” he said.
“One of the great reasons we have got community support is because we are conscious of protecting venue.
“It has a set number of people it can comfortably hold, we’re not crowding people in. A lot of events run the risk getting greedy and that’s not how we operate.
“We want people coming back to an easy and laid-back event.”
This year Rockwiz co-creator Brian Nankervis will MC the festival. He also hosted the event in 2014.
Nankervis said he was excited for the line-up and that people had always raved about the festival to him.
“I have to say it’s quite remarkable who's playing, that’s partly what drew me last year,” he said. ”I had heard great things about (the festival), there are friends of mine working on the show.”
Nankervis said as a music fan he enjoyed being able to interact with the crowd.
“Last year I got there early for soundchecking and there was a pretty decent crowd already,” he said.
“Everyone so relaxed and friendly, environment so beautiful and it set the tone for the weekend.”
Nankervis said as well as the talent and crowd, he enjoyed hanging out in the town.
“People have always raved about it with its great vibe and beautiful setting,” he said.
“As a music fan first and foremost, to be sharing the stage and bringing on someone like Don Walker is really exciting.”
The Riverboats Music Festival is on from February 19 to 21.
