ALL ENTRANTS: Bendigo Cup Style Stakes: The hopefuls
FIRST ROUND: Bendigo Cup Style Stakes: The top 100
SECOND ROUND: Bendigo Cup Style Stakes: The top 20
After a week of voting in the 2015 Bendigo Advertiser and Jools for Jim Style Stakes, the winners have been crowned.
Eve Lauder has come in first place with her white and pale pink two-piece; Nathan Fitzpatrick has taken out second place in his blue racing attire; and Emily Johnston has finished in third place with her floral outfit.
Eve has won a $500 Jools for Jim voucher, Nathan a $300 voucher, and Emily a $200 voucher.
Ric Bramucci will also be taking home a $100 voucher after winning the voter’s prize.
The people have delivered their verdict on the Bendigo Cup fashions, and it turns out you don’t need to wear a dress, or even a skirt, to win the popular vote.
Eve Lauder claimed the people’s prize in the Bendigo Advertiser and Jools for Jim Style Stakes competition with a stunning two-piece that combined traditional race-wear with current trends.
She pieced together by scouring her sister’s closet for a broad white hat, but it was her online purchase of pale pink candy-striped culottes that really drew the eye.
The high-waisted culottes appear look like a skirt from a distance, but actually have a seam up the middle like pants.
“It's really exciting to win, especially with something different,” Ms Lauder said.
“I found them online and I really liked them. They were a good length and nice colours for the Bendigo Cup.”
The 19-year-old, who has just qualified as a beauty therapist, said she paired the asymmetrical striped garment with a white crop top and comfortable heels for the big day.
Runner up for the people’s fashion award went to Nathan Fitzpatrick, who was pleasantly surprised to make the top three.
“I’m not really a big fashion person – I went shopping with one of my mates and we just chose first thing we saw,” he said.
He took care to match the blue suit with a similar toned tie, black shoes and his attention to detail with a pocket handkerchief saw the first year uni student dressed for success at his first Bendigo Cup.
Apart from wowing voters, he also managed to back a winner in the final race of the day.
Emily Johnston celebrated her 18th birthday in style at the Bendigo Cup, coming in third in the Style Stakes with a bright orange fascinator – her favourite colour – topping off an elegant floral number. Like winner Ms Lauder, Ms Johnston also picked out her outfit online.
He solid tan heels also held up in the comfort stakes, as she continued her celebrations from the day before with friends at the race track.
She chose the outfit for comfort and to try out a new style, finding she quite liked the length and floral pattern.
She said it was “awesome” to be in the top three, adding that in the past couple of years she had delved more into the world of fashion.
