As we instinctively gravitate to the small window installed in Gallery Two at the La Trobe University Visual Arts Centre, we bring with us a series of learned expectations. Infinity turns our preconceptions on their heads.
Ashlee Ko does not present an exhibition of objects, instead she attempts to exhibit an atmosphere. The room has been modestly altered in order to create a serene contemplative space. For Ko the cool blue-grey creates a “dreamlike experience”. However, she also acknowledges that this “conflicts with the airless environment”. Ko’s window promises a view of the outside world, yet there is no such escape. Infinity ends at VAC this Sunday.
