Club secretary Doug Moulden said the aim of the new club was to promote the breeding and showing of poultry in Bendigo and the wider central Victorian region.
Mr Moulden said the club also wanted to encourage juniors into the hobby.
The group has about 20 members so far and is looking for more poultry lovers to join its ranks.
Chickens, ducks, turkeys and geese are all welcome.
“We have members mostly from Bendigo, but we intend to spread our wings a bit further, so to speak,” Mr Moulden said.
He said the club was very social and said poultry breeding suited someone who liked a challenge.
“It’s a good challenge to breed a good bird,” he said. “They’ve each got their individual characters.”
The Central Victorian Poultry Club meets on the first Tuesday of every second month, with the next meeting to be held on October 2.
Meetings are held at the Prince of Wales Showgrounds in the McKinnon Pavilion and start at 7.30pm.
