Ms Allan said 28,000 new sleepers had been laid across 70 kilometres of track, allowing speed restrictions to be lifted.
“Standardising the Murray Basin rail network, and increasing the loads it can carry, will allow primary producers to get more produce to port, more efficiently, boosting jobs and the regional economy,” she said.
“This is good for farmers, their families and our economy.”
The works are part of $25 million of maintenance to be completed on the Mildura freight line between Yelta and Maryborough by early next year, including the replacement of 3,400 metres of rail and nearly 100,000 sleepers.
