The festivities are set to continue on Saturday and Sunday, despite the cancellation of Heritage Uncorked, with visitors encouraged to “put Bendigo wine on your table”.
Marong winemaker Cliff Stubbs said about a third of patrons were still planning on heading to the region’s wineries.
“We had quite a few also purchase tickets for Heritage After Dark and said they were still going to come to Bendigo for the weekend,” he said.
“That’s when we came up with the idea of using the slogan ‘put Bendigo wine on your table’ and we’re doing a bit of a push to encourage them to get out of the city centre on the Saturday and come and visit the wineries at the cellar door over the weekend.”
Also on this weekend is the Heathcote Wine Festival, now in its 14th year.
Heathcote Winegrowers Association executive officer Chris Earl said the event was one of the longest running wine and food festivals in Victoria.
“The festival is a very unique celebration of passionate winemakers from the Heathcote region sharing their exciting produce with thousands of people,” he said.
“We are expecting something like 4000-plus people to be attending the festival over the two days, people from right across Victoria and interstate, and we already know there are visitors from overseas who will be attending.
“They’ve timed their Australian trip to also be able to include the Heathcote wine festival which is a real indication of the growing world awareness of the exciting shiraz wines of Heathcote.”
Tickets for Heritage After Dark are available on the door.
The Heathcote Wine Festival is on at the Heathcote Showgrounds between 10.30am and 5.30pm Saturday and Sunday.
