An abundance of willing players means Golden City will enter two teams - one in the championship division, the other in reserve grade.
Golden City is a many times state title winner, having contested the championships for more than 20 straight years.
But long-time coach/co-ordinator Ros Comer said winning wasn't everything for those involved this weekend.
"The state titles are about getting as many all-abilities people involved as possible and getting them court-time," she said.
"Winning is a bonus, but it's not everything."
Eleven teams will contest the state titles, across the two divisions.
Golden City players are no stranger to competition, playing a regular season in Bendigo each year, as well as a yearly tournament in Mooroopna against some of this weekend's rivals, including Wimmera, Echuca and Shepparton.
Golden City will open its championship division campaign against barwon at 9.55am on Sunday.
The reserve grade team has a first-up encounter against Wodonga and District at 9.38am.
The top two teams in both divisions after a series of round robin games will progress to the grand final.
Jenny Milburn will take charge of the championship division team, with Martina Pysing to coach the reserve team.
Comer described her playing group, which includes a sprinkling of males, as “a great bunch”.
“They all want to be here – and they love it,” she said.
She thanked St John Of God Bendigo Hospital for supplying the teams with uniforms.
