Court security noticed the weapons concealed in the man’s wallet as it passed through security scanners in the foyer of Court 6.
The knife folds into a square shape – the same size as a credit card – and can be slid among other cards.
A sharp blade folds out.
The multi-tool was a small metal piece with an “extremely sharp” blade, also hidden in the wallet.
Security officers alerted a police officer in the court, and the items were seized and will be destroyed.
The man was attending court on unrelated matters.
He was issued two infringement notices for carrying prohibited items, with fines of $1000 for each weapon.
The Bendigo Advertiser understands charges could have been laid had the items been discovered within the courtroom.
The weapons are imported from overseas and are illegal in Australia.
Security scanners were installed during the construction of the new court room in the Bendigo Magistrates’ Court, located at the rear of the court precinct.
They were first used early this year.
Court 6 is the only courtroom in the precinct with security scanners and is used for criminal matters in the magistrates’ court, with holding cells for people appearing in custody.
