A female passenger has also been taken to Bendigo Health for observation.
Leading Senior Constable Todd Deary said a silver Kia was turning right from Crook Street, while a maroon Ford Falcon attempted to drive straight across McIvor Road.
The crash happened just after 2.30pm.
The Kia collided with the Ford, before a small earth moving truck – travelling east on McIvor Road – crashed into the back of the Ford.
The driver of the truck said he could see the Kia considering the risky maneuver, and when it did, he slammed on his brakes but couldn’t stop in time.
“The two collided in front of me, they swung each other around, I just couldn’t stop in time,” he said.
Emergency services took about half an hour to free the male driver of the Ford Falcon, who suffered neck injuries.
The male driver of the Kia avoided injury and will be issued a penalty notice for failure to give way. His female passenger also sustained minor injuries.
The driver of the truck was uninjured in the crash.
The east-bound side of McIvor Road was closed for about an hour while emergency services cleared the scene.
