The final round of the 72-hole tournament was cancelled on Sunday, leaving Herbert in a tie for 12th and his dream of earning automatic qualification for the US Masters in tatters.
A superb five-under par 65 in Saturday’s third round had given Herbert a slim hope of reeling in leader Jin Cheng.
He was to start Sunday’s final round eight shots behind the young Chinese star.
The washout was even more painful for Herbert’s Australian team-mates Ryan Ruffels and Cameron Davis. The duo were just one shot behind Cheng.
“I guess it's not hard to tell that we are both pretty gutted,” Ruffels said at the tournament press conference.
“The tournament did great in just trying to get us out there today. They did the best they could, but there's not much you can do when the conditions are like that.”
Herbert now returns to Australia to prepare for a trip to Japan to play against the pros in the Japan Open.
