But imagine the surprise when you didn't even realise you had a ticket in the draw.

That's what happened to Golden Square man Ben Noonan, the first-prize winner in AFL Central Victoria's major fundraiser for season 2015.

The accountant and Maryborough Magpies fan won a new Toyota Yaris, after his name was drawn out on BFNL grand final day.

Mr Noonan was handed the keys to his new car on Thursday by retired dual Hawthorn premiership star Brad Sewell, who was at Bendigo Toyota as part of the Retiring Legends Lap of Honour tour.

It is believed Mr Noonan's dad Kelvin purchased the ticket in his son's name.

He said winning was a "massive surprise".

"You never think you're going to win, " he said.

"I buy raffle tickets every now and then, but dad bought a whole lot two weeks ago and we think it's him who bought the winner.

"He's involved with Maryborough footy club - I'll definitely be buying him a few beers."

Mr Noonan said his previous biggest prize win was a $500 watch, which he won while on holiday in the Caribbean earlier this year.

A former Maryborough Castlemaine District league footballer, Mr Noonan was looking forward to driving the new car home next week.

Proceeds from the raffle go towards football development projects throughout the central Victoria region.
