Organisers of a fundraising event for dementia call it the condition that will have the greatest social and economic impact on our time.
So Alzheimer’s Australia VIC say they are excited to bring the Memory Walk and Jog to Bendigo’s Strathdale Park on Sunday October 11.
“With an estimated 81,000 Victorians living with dementia, our services have never been in higher demand,” the organisation says.
“Register for the four-kilometre walk, four-kilometre run or the eight-kilometre run and help us, help those impacted by dementia by joining us for the race against dementia.
“All funds raised increase Alzheimer’s Australia’s ability to provide vital support services, such as counselling, support groups, education to help family carers, and professional training across Victoria.
“These services reduce feelings of isolation and empower people living with dementia and those caring for them.”
Last year, about 160 people gathered for the Bendigo Memory Walk and barbecue. The event raised more than $1250 for Alzheimer's research – up from $400 the year before that.
This year Alzheimer’s Australia say the first 500 people to register will receive a free Memory Walk and Jog event t-shirt.
