The lively 13-year-old also didn’t suffer nerves when playing the didgeridoo in front of the 200 people who attended the event.

His mum Darise Birrell said she had been incredibly proud to see her son, who was born with cerebral palsy and epilepsy, take centre stage at the annual ball, describing the event as “the night of our life”.

“It was the most amazing thing to see Cole play. He was so proud to be able to support Scope after all the support they have given him over the years,” she said.

Cole was also an enthusiastic participant at Bendigo’s first Scope Walk With Me event on the weekend.

Scope gave Cole a Hart walker seven years ago, which Darise said had changed his life.

“When he took his first steps was just amazing. It’s something I never thought he would be able to do.

“It’s helped him with his communication. It’s enabled him to be at the kitchen bench and chat and at school he’s the same height as his peers.” 

Darise, Cole and grandmother Dot Peoples took part in Scope’s Walk With Me on the weekend.

“In terms of funding, there are so many people who could benefit from different walkers and without the help of Scope they might not be able to get one,” Daris said.

“I hope they can raise more money for other cherubs who need the help.”
