Brent Nicholas Gilbert, 34, of Flora Hill, has been charged with attempted murder and recklessly and intentionally causing injury for the alleged stabbing on September 11.
He appeared via video link from the Bendigo Police Station and did not apply for bail.
The family of the victim sat in court during the brief hearing on Monday.
Police laid the attempted murder charges on the same day as the alleged stabbing, charge sheets showed.
Magistrate Richard Wright suppressed Gilbert’s address and the identity of the victim.
Gilbert will re-appear in the Bendigo Magistrates’ Court on December 9.
UPDATE, SATURDAY 3.40pm: Police have charged a 34-year-old Flora Hill man following a stabbing in California Gully yesterday.
Police were called to a residence in Green Street following reports a woman was injured about 5.15am.
A 30-year-old woman was airlifted to a Melbourne hospital where she remains in a stable condition.
Brent Gilbert has been charged with attempted murder and has been remanded to appear before Bendigo Magistrates’ Court on Monday.
UPDATE 2.50pm:
Detective Sergeant Poulton said there is no suggestion the incident is related to domestic violence.
Police are pursuing a number of lines of inquiry.
He refused to be drawn on the nature of the woman’s injuries but said thy were serious enough to warrant transportation to a Melbourne hospital.

The victim is in a stable condition but she has not been able to speak with police.
Police are appealing for any witnesses.

Police have confirmed that after the stabbing the woman went to the neighbours property to call emergency services.
The woman was then conveyed to hospital, stabilised and airlifted from there.

Bendigo Crime Investigation Unit detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding a stabbing in California Gully this morning.
Police were called to a residence in Green Street following reports a woman was injured about 5.15am.
It is expected the 30-year-old woman will be airlifted to a Melbourne hospital for treatment to her injuries.
Major Crime Scene officers are heading to the property to process the scene.
Investigations are continuing into the circumstances surrounding the incident which remain unclear.

9.15am: A spokesperson for Bendigo Health said the woman is in a stable condition and is being transferred to a hospital in Melbourne.
Police attended the house at 5.15am after reports of a stabbing.
Ambulance Victoria said they attended the Green Street, California Gully, address just after 5am.
The Homicide Squad is on its way to the scene.
EARLIER: Police have confirmed a woman has been stabbed in a house in Green Street, California Gully, in the early hours of Friday morning.
A spokesperson for Victoria Police said officers responded to the reports of a stabbing at the address at 5.15am.
The woman has been taken to Bendigo Health with life threatening injuries sustained to her upper body.
Police and detectives remain on scene in Green Street, California Gully.
Four houses have been cordoned off.
