The event, now in its second year, is organised by Bike Bendigo and Bendigo Community Health Services as part of Men's Health Week.
The casual ride took participants on a four and a half kilometre return journey from Flora Hill to Spring Gully along the Spring Gully Trail.
Bike Bendigo co-ordinator Steve Abbott said organisers could not have asked for a better morning, with blue skies and plenty of sunshine greeting riders for the 10.30am start.
He said bike riding was one of the simplest and safest forms of exercise and a great way for families to have fun and improve health.
"Ride for Dad is about getting kids and their families physically active," Mr Abbott said.
"Most people do have a bike in their shed, it's just a matter of pulling it out on a day like today in early spring.
"Bike riding is a really great way to have fun and enjoy some parts of Bendigo you wouldn't normally see in a car."
Community groups including the Bendigo Amateur Radio and Electronics Club, Bendigo Mountain Bike Club and Kiwanis Club of Bendigo ran stalls, while the ride was followed by a free barbecue and entertainment.
Rick and Shannon O’Callaghan were among the participants, with children Meg, 8, and Henry 6.
Mr O’Callaghan said his kids loved bike riding.
“We try and support as many community events as we can as we are only new to town,” he said.
“This looked like a good one to be involved in.”
A Run for Dad and Walk for Dad is organised for Sunday, starting at 10am from the Bendigo Racecourse.
All proceeds from the event, which coincides with father’s day, will support the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia.
