The title favourites took a 1-0 lead in the best of three grand final series when they defeated Falcons 5-2 on Sunday.
Young gun Billy Parsons was given the pitching responsibility for Scots and he didn’t let his team down.
Falcons lead off Josh Brown hit safely to centre field, but the next three batters were retired for a scoreless inning.
Jordan Osborne struggled with his control on the mound for Falcons and after two walks and a hit, the bases were loaded.
He then dug deep to strike out two batters, before Scots’ Darcy Harrison delivered the first run of the game with a hit to left field.
Falcons managed to escape the inning without any more damage, but their batters failed to make the most of having runners on first and second base in the top of the second inning.
Scots made them pay in the bottom of the second inning, breaking the game open.
Aaron Petri hit safely, Sean Meldrum walked, and then John Taylor was hit by a pitch to load the bases.
Joel Brownlee stepped up and hit a fly ball to right field which scored three runs to give Scots a 4-0 lead.
Falcons had to strike back quickly.
Josh Brown led off with a solid single into right field. Two Scots’ errors and a single by Mick Peters saw Falcons score a much-needed run.
Scots regained their composure and got the next three outs to keep a three-run lead after three innings.
Jordan Osborne struck out Scots’ lead in the bottom of the inning, but Tyson Cox-Davies then hit a long fly ball to the left field fence for a stand-up double.
He went to third base on a wild pitch and Ash Wilkie was walked.
An attempted pick-off at first by Osborne went wild, and Cox-Davies scampered home for Scots’ fifth run.
Darryl Muns led off the fourth for Falcons with a walk, and he went to second on a single by Jason Harriage.
A wild pitch saw both runners advance, and then Simon Tatt singled to bring Muns home for Falcons’ second run.
Tatt was thrown out stealing, and a strike out by Parsons and an infield out, retired Falcons for no further runs.
Scots failed to get a runner on in their half of the inning, but Falcons couldn’t capitalise when it was their turn to bat.
Scots coach Sean Meldrum relieved Parsons after he reached his pitch limit.
Parsons only gave up six hits in five innings, striking out six and only conceding two runs in an outstanding display.
Falcons came to bat at the top of sixth needing three runs to make Scots bat again.
Jordan Osborne hit a double, but Falcons were unable to bat him in, and Scots recorded a three-run win.
Meanwhile, the B-grade preliminary final replay was a thriller with Falcons defeating Bendigo East 10-9.
Falcons led by two going into the final inning. East scored to cut the deficit to one but Falcons’ second baseman Dale Lindrea took a well judged catch to close out the game.
In C-grade, Scots took game one of the grand final series, defeating Dodgers 15-12.
Dodgers led 15-1 going into the bottom of the fifth, but Scots scored an amazing 14 runs in the final inning to clinch victory.
