Camp Reserve in Castlemaine and Newstead Recreational Reserve will benefit from the new sporting lights, to be supplied and installed by DeAraugo and Lea Electrical Contractors.
Mount Alexander Shire Council director of sustainable communities Vicky Mason said the $431,860 investment would improve not only the night-time sporting atmosphere, but activities for the broader community.
The lights will be installed by early 2016, in time for first football matches and pre-season netball training.
They will also be in use for the Castlemaine Agricultural Show, New Year’s Eve Celebrations and the Castlemaine Swap Meet.
“This is an exciting time for the Shire’s sporting groups and we are pleased that, after many years of hard work by community members and Council, the contracts have been awarded,” Ms Mason said.
Council received a grant of $80,000 from Sport and Recreation Victoria and an agreed contribution of $100,000 by the Castlemaine Football Netball Club.
Installation of lights at Camp Reserve and Newstead Recreation Reserve were identified in the Mount Alexander Reserves Improvement Plan 2010.
