The 19 pupils from Bendigo’s Victory Christian College flew out of the country last Friday headed for their first stop of Dallas, Texas.
Year 10 student Sarah Swayn said the month-long study trip of the states would be an “exciting and amazing opportunity” for all the pupils.
“We are first travelling to Dallas, Texas where we will go to the Six Flags Amusement Park, Potters House Church and attend a baseball game,” she said.
“We then depart for Tulsa, Oklahoma where we are spending the majority of our time.”
In Tulsa, which has a population of about 400,000 people, the pupils will be billeted with host families and go to a local school for two weeks.
As well as attending daily classes, the students will also participate in cheerleading, American football, athletics, softball, volleyball and specialist music programs.
Miss Swayn said that half-way through the Tulsa leg the students would hit the road for a trip to Kansas City in the mid-western state of Missouri.
“This is where we will do some major shopping, as well as checking out the Woolaroc Museum and an NFL game between the (Denver) Broncos and (Kansas City) Chiefs,” she said.
“We then go back to Tulsa and spend a few more nights with our host families.”
The month-long trip will conclude with a four-day swing through Los Angeles.
“This is the most anticipated part of the trip among the students and it is where we will go to Disneyland, Universal Studios, Santa Monica Beach and have a general tour around the Hollywood Hills,” Miss Swayn said.
“I, personally, am so excited for this amazing opportunity and am so grateful to the teachers and my parents who have made this happen.”
Two Victory Christian College staff members and three parents will accompany the pupils for the duration of the trip.
Students taking part in the study tour include: Geordie Beazley, Stacy Wanyama, Neve Curnow, Zoe Ferns, Sarah Swayn, Grace Tennant, Callum Colquhoun, Jason Topp-Lowe, Isaac Everett, Lewis Stone, Luke Harris, Zara Laursen, Kimberley Whittle, Corey Nichol, Taylah Harrison, Isabella Rich-Jones and Alexandra Harris.
