The Hawks clinched the Bendigo Amateur Soccer League title with two games to spare on Sunday when they defeated third-placed Epsom 9-3.
One year after struggling to field a women’s team, Sunday’s victory was Eaglehawk’s 11th from as many games this season.
“We’ve trained hard this year and having a big squad of 20 players has been a big help,” Eaglehawk coach Richard Webb said.
“We’ve had a good balance of youth and experience and there is great depth in the squad. The girls have bonded extremely well.
“The commitment from the girls has been first class and they’ve reaped the rewards.
“Considering where we were last year, it’s been an amazing effort by everyone involved.”
Former Melbourne Victory star Maika Ruyter-Hooley scored six of Eaglehawk’s nine goals in Sunday’s win.
Emma Webb, Amy Skvarc and Azhia Claridge also found the back of the net.
Eaglehawk is not content with just the championship. The Hawks want the League Cup title as well.
“First we want to beat Spring Gully in the final round of the game. Having won the championship and being unbeaten, we want to win that last game as well,’’ Webb said.
“Then it’s the League Cup. Everyone is motivated to get the job done.”
Spring Gully secured second place on the championship table with a 7-4 victory over Colts United.
Beth Powell bagged four goals and Siobhan Thompson scored two goals for the Reds, while Liz Watkins scored a brace for Colts.
Strathdale scored its third win of the season when it defeated Moama 1-0.
Bridget Meadows kicked the winning goal for the Blues.
In men’s division one, Moama took advantage of champion team Strathdale resting some of its senior players.
The Raiders won 3-1 to inflict Strathdale’s second loss of the championship season.
Alister Holt, Lachlan Arkinstall and Mitch Langenbacher were the goal scorers for Moama, while Nick Watson scored for the Blues.
Eaglehawk consolidated second spot on the ladder with a hard-fought 2-1 win over Epsom on Sunday.
The game was headed for a draw before the Hawks pounced with a late winner.
In the final game of the round, Colts United and Spring Gully played out a 2-2 draw.
Phil Berry and Michael Jones found the back of the net for Colts, while Tom Mannix and Joel Bish scored for the Reds.
Meanwhile, Strathdale secured the youth championship on Sunday.
The Blues thrashed Moama 15-1 to move two games clear of second placed Golden City. The Blues are unbeaten in 12 games this season, have scored 101 goals and conceded just 11.
Considering where we were last year, it’s been an amazing effort by everyone involved.
