The Magpies are 0-17 going into their round 18 match against Kyneton at Princes Park on Saturday, with the past seven of their losses by at least 100 points.
“It’s obviously been a tough year, but the guys are all really keen to try to get one win for the season,” outgoing coach Bond said on Friday.
“We’ve got some hard bodies out there who will crack in, so hopefully, we can put in a strong performance.”
While Maryborough is being driven by the incentive of winning its first game of the year, Kyneton is on the cusp of playing finals for the first time since 2003.
A Kyneton win – as expected – would propel the Tigers into next week’s elimination final, but if they are beaten by Maryborough there is still the slim chance they could be tipped out by Castlemaine if the Magpies can pull off an upset win over Golden Square.
