Executive Director Peter Richardson said he hoped the new facility would encourage people in need to simply walk in off the street and seek help.
“We believe this street frontage will mean that people in distress will now know where they can get assistance,” he said.
“With our public entrance now facing out to McCrae Street, we’ve had quite a few people simply walk in off the street saying that they didn’t even know that we were there.”
“I think that the message people need to take from this is that we are a local organisation, serving local people and we are here to stay.”
The remodelling of the McCrae Street building has transformed the streetscape which was once home to the science rooms of Marist Brothers Boys School.
Official guests, staff, Advisory Board members and local community supporters will gather to celebrate the remodelled facilities, which will be officially blessed and opened by Bishop Leslie Tomlinson.
CatholicCare Sandhurst (formerly Centacare) is a not-for-profit organisation, providing counselling services, school chaplaincy services and programs to individuals, couples, families and groups across the Victorian Loddon Mallee and Goulburn Murray regions.
The refurbishment project was made possible through the generous support of the Diocese of Sandhurst.
The refurbished facilities were opened last Tuesday.
