The Rubber Tracks competition gives bands the keys to the most iconic studios in the world.
Abreact guitarist Lee Chatterton said the group picked Vancouver because bands including Slayer, AC/DC, Biffy Clyro and Muse had recorded in the same studio.
“The Warehouse was our first preference. The bands that have recorded there don’t directly influence how we sound but we are really big fans of them,” he said.
“We fly out on September 21, so it’s pretty quick but we are only there for a few days.
“We are nearly ready to record album number two and will do some sort of EP (in Canada) then come back and finish it.”
Chatterton said the band put together an eye catching application.
“Instead of the standard application, we added a quick video of why we wanted to (record),” he said.
“It was sort of a brief history of the band. I think (the judges) enjoyed that.”
Abreact were unearthed at the 2013 Groovin the Moo festival. Since 2013, the band has included new drummer Aaron Grey after original drummer Tim Young stepped aside due to work commitments.
Chatterton said the Rubber Tracks project was a great opportunity.
“We want to come out of Canada with a finished product,” he said.
“We can’t just go and not achieve anything and say it was cool.”
