BEARS Lagoon-Serpentine defender Sarah Perry is unsure what it was that made her stand out to the Loddon Valley Netball League umpires this year.

But she did and on Wednesday night was crowned the Loddon Valley’s A grade league medallist.
Perry polled 23 votes to win, finishing four clear of YCW’s Leisa Barry (19).
“This year all the teams had very strong defensive units and if you have a look at the top six in the votes, five of them were wing defenders,” Perry said on Thursday.
“It looks like the umpires had a bit of a focus on the defensive end this year, but as for why I stood out more than any of my team-mates or anyone from the opposition, I’m not too sure.”
Wednesday night was the second time Perry had won the Loddon Valley’s A grade netball medal.
She was also the winner of the medal in 2006, and 20 years ago in 1995 won the junior league medal.
But she’s still missing the one medal she craves – a premiership medal.
“As they say, you’d trade some of those in for a team trophy,” said Perry, who is the Bears’ netball president.
