A MUCKLEFORD man who allegedly stole a homemade minion sculpture from a Prouses Road house earlier this year has been described as a “menace” by a magistrate in Bendigo.
Mark Peter Llewellyn, 34 did not appear in the Bendigo Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday for a sentencing indication, but was instead represented by his defence counsel.
The theft of the minion on February 22 was considered one of Llewellyn’s more minor offences and he has been in custody for five months.
He has been charged for the theft of the sculpture, valued at $200, as well as two counts of driving while disqualified, leaving the scene of an accident, criminal damage and firearms offences.
The court heard on March 23 this year Llewellyn allegedly threw a television through a window at his Muckleford residence during a dispute.
He also allegedly shot a hole in a wall at the house using a 12 gauge shotgun, which he then shortened to 700 millimetres using an angle grinder.
Police attended, but Llewellyn had allegedly left the residence and it took two days for him to be arrested.
During police interviews, he was allegedly “aggressive towards police” at Castlemaine Police Station, and again threatened officers at the Melbourne Remand Centre.
The court heard Llewellyn had also been involved in a car crash in Ballarat, in which he collided with a vehicle in a car park before driving off without leaving notification.
Magistrate Patrick Southey said Llewellyn had committed an “alarming” string of offences in recent years.
“He’s a menace,” he said.
“He has a history of violence and making threats, and the sawn-off shotgun offence is clearly an issue.
“The protection of the community is more important than any other factors.”
Mr Southey said Llewellyn could expect a 16 month prison sentence with a non-parole period of nine months.
He said the theft of the minion would attract a “small sentence”.
Llewellyn will be sentenced on September 1.
